How we source MOT cost figures
Every figure on this site comes from one place. This page describes the source, the refresh discipline, and what we do not publish.
Source
- DVSA maximum fee schedule on gov.uk. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency publishes the maximum MOT fee per vehicle class at gov.uk/getting-an-mot/mot-cost. That schedule is the authoritative source for the maximum chargeable fee. Garages may charge less, but cannot charge more.
What we deliberately do not publish
- Specific garage prices. Garages set their own prices below the DVSA maximum. We do not maintain a per-garage price database; the published figure is the maximum chargeable, the floor is shop-around territory.
- Aggregator booking commissions. Booking aggregators take a margin from garages on each MOT booked. We do not publish the commission structure beyond noting it exists.
- Personal vehicle data. If a calculator is present on the site, it runs entirely in your browser. Your registration is not transmitted, logged, or stored.
Update cadence
Site values update only when the underlying reality changes. Triggers:
- DVSA announces a change to the maximum fee schedule
- Vehicle classification changes that affect which fee applies
Cosmetic date bumps are not made.
